About the Artist

My Journey

As children, we’re fascinated by the possibilities of what we might become. A policeman, a pilot, an astronaut… perhaps even an artist.

During my school years, traditional classroom learning wasn’t always easy, but I especially enjoyed the art programs and electives. They gave me an opportunity to express myself in a different way.

Three decades later, on an ordinary Saturday afternoon, I was sitting with my mother when she made a simple suggestion: “Since you’re just sitting there, I’d like to see you do a painting.”

That moment changed something for me.

She gave me an instructional DVD, and I carefully followed along with the two-hour presentation before getting to work. I was genuinely excited by the result of that first serious attempt. In fact, I surprised myself!

What began as a simple suggestion became something I wanted to pursue further.

Since 2014, I’ve continued developing my skills through books, magazines, instructional videos, and plenty of practice. I’m now enjoying the opportunity to learn from professional instructors, meet other artists, and discover new ways to improve. I believe there’s always something more to learn, and that’s part of what makes painting so rewarding.

My Approach to Painting

I started out painting more realistically, but over time I’ve become increasingly interested in impressionism and abstract approaches. I want my work to become a little looser, more expressive, and more fluid.

A camera can capture what something looks like. Painting gives me the opportunity to interpret what I see and add something of my own to it.

I find myself looking at the world differently than I once did. I’m constantly noticing light, shadows, reflections, colors, and the way things come together in a composition.

Whatever I’m painting, I enjoy working through the choices that bring an image together. Where should the viewer’s eye go? What colors work best? How does the light affect the scene? What can I do to make the painting more interesting?

I enjoy that process of discovery. I’m always trying to do my best, learn something new, and take each painting a little further than the last.

Inspiration

Music has been one of my greatest influences throughout my life. Progressive rock, symphonic music, dance, and pop have all played a part in shaping my appreciation for creativity and expression.

Nature, family, and friendships are also important sources of inspiration. I find beauty in the world around me and in the experiences we share with the people who matter to us.

I’m interested in painting a variety of subjects. Sometimes an interesting landscape catches my attention. Other times, it’s a special place, a meaningful experience, or simply something that makes me stop and take a closer look.

I enjoy exploring where those ideas might take me.

Why I Paint

I want to create paintings that excite, move, and stir emotions. That’s really at the heart of why I paint.

I believe one of the wonderful things about art is the way it can make us feel. A painting might bring back a fond memory, create a sense of peace, inspire excitement, or simply make someone stop and appreciate a beautiful moment.

To feel is to be alive.

If one of my paintings creates an emotional response in someone, even for a brief moment, then I feel I’ve accomplished something meaningful.

For me, a successful painting is one that catches someone’s attention, makes them want to look a little longer, and perhaps gives them something to think about or feel. I don’t expect everyone to see the same thing in a painting. In fact, I enjoy the idea that each person might take something different away from it.

Let’s Create Something Personal

Some of our most meaningful experiences deserve to be remembered.

I’m especially interested in working with people who would like to turn a special memory, family experience, beloved pet, favorite place, or important moment into an original painting.

I enjoy the idea of collaborating with someone to understand what makes that subject meaningful to them and then finding a way to bring it to life on canvas.

Every commission is an opportunity to learn something about another person while creating something unique together.

I welcome the opportunity to hear your ideas, discuss possibilities, and see what we can create.

Thank you for taking the time to visit and explore my work. I hope you find something here that speaks to you.
